“Sabhi Kathmullon 24 ghante ke andar gaon khaali kardo, warna zinda jala diye jaoge,” read a pamphlet that began circulating on social media a few days ago, claiming it was a threat left inside the homes of Muslims in the Sikandrabad region of Uttar Pradesh. The translation reads: “All Kathmullas must vacate the village within 24 hours, otherwise you will be burned alive.”
Beyond these images, little information was available on social media platforms or in news reports. Maktoob tracked down the incident and reached out to residents of Bhonkhera village in Sikandrabad.
Maktoob spoke to local residents, women, lawyers, and police officials to understand the reality behind the pamphlet, which surfaced on social media on January 2, 2026.
A morning that changed everything
The morning of January 1, 2026, was anything but ordinary for the Muslim residents of Bhonkhera village in Sikandrabad.
When Sajid Ali woke up that day, he stepped out to buy milk to make his first cup of chai after offering the fajr namaz. What he found at the entrance of his house left him stunned.
A pamphlet lay at his doorstep, carrying a warning that targeted Muslims and threatened to burn them alive if they did not leave the village within 24 hours.
