NEW DELHI/ALIGARH – Four Muslim youths were injured, two of them critically, after they were allegedly attacked by a group of men while returning home after offering namaz in Aligarh’s Shahjamal area, according to police and family members.

The incident occurred recently in the Telipada locality, under the Rorawar police station area. Relatives said the youths were heading back peacefully from the mosque when they were surrounded and beaten by a group of around a dozen attackers armed with sticks.

The injured were first taken to Malkhan Singh District Hospital, where doctors treated them for serious injuries. Two of the victims were later referred to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital after doctors found their condition critical.

Police have registered a case and launched a search operation to arrest those involved.

Locals said the incident began with an argument between two groups in the neighbourhood soon after the youths left the mosque.

According to witnesses, the dispute was taken to the police station, where both sides reportedly reached a compromise.

However, families say the matter did not end there.

Relatives allege that the accused later waited for the youths and attacked them again while they were on their way home.

A resident of the area said, “There was an argument earlier and the matter even went to the police station. But later, the boys were surrounded and beaten when they were returning home.”

The father of one of the injured youths said his son and his friends had gone to offer namaz and were returning home when they were attacked.

He said the matter had already been settled at the police station before the assault took place.

The father said, “My children had gone to offer namaz. After the prayers, there was a dispute between two groups, but everyone went to the police station and the matter was settled.”
