A fresh controversy has erupted after BJP minority leader Nazia Elahi Khan visited a Lenskart outlet in Andheri, Mumbai, and shared videos of her confrontation with staff on social media platform X.
The incident, which quickly went viral, has ignited heated debates over religious expression in workplaces, alleged discrimination against Hindu customs, and corporate policies on grooming and symbols.
In the footage, Khan is seen engaging in a tense exchange with store employees, including the manager identified as Mohsin Khan. She directly questions the manager’s role and asks provocatively, “Sharia lagu karwana hai kya?” (Do you want to implement Sharia?).
Khan alleges that the company has been discouraging Hindu staff from wearing religious symbols such as tilak, kalawa, and other visible markers of faith, while supposedly favouring other religious expressions. She claims the appointment of a Muslim manager was deliberate to suppress Hindu practices.
The videos show Khan moving through the store and applying tilak on the foreheads of Hindu employees, who appear visibly uncomfortable yet compliant.
She also raises slogans praising Lord Ram and Lord Shiva, with onlookers recording the scene on their phones. In her accompanying post, Khan accused Lenskart of bias and called for the arrest of the company’s owner.
She demanded a thorough investigation by national security agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and even suggested possible links to terrorist organisations—claims for which no concrete evidence has been presented so far. She tagged Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office, and other authorities.
The episode comes amid a broader row over a leaked Lenskart style guide that reportedly restricted items like bindi, tilak, and kalawa while allowing hijab and turban.
