A video of the attack has gone viral on social media, showing the vigilantes beating the victims with wooden sticks. One man is seen bleeding heavily from injuries on his forehead, while another clip shows an elderly victim being kicked to the ground.
A young man is repeatedly attacked despite his cries for help. The assailants allegedly used abusive language and questioned the men about the source of the alleged beef.
The assault took place in the presence of police officers, who were seen trying to intervene but could not immediately stop the mob. The vigilantes later handed the victims over to the authorities. Siwan police have not issued any official statement so far.
Rise in Vigilantism
Such incidents have raised concerns about the increasing trend of Hindutva-linked vigilantism in parts of India. Groups like Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad have been frequently accused of targeting members of the Muslim community.
Just a day earlier, on May 11, Bajrang Dal workers in another case publicly humiliated a 27-year-old man named Arif Khan, accusing him of “love jihad,” dragging him half-naked and smearing his face with paint and cow dung.
