Nirmal Payeng, State Secretary of the BJP ST Morcha, during an election campaign, claimed that the previous Congress government had settled “Miya-Muslim” immigrants on land belonging to religious institutions and praised eviction drives targeting them. He alleged that in the past, when “Miya, Mulla, and people of unknown Bangladeshi origin” were subjected to eviction, Muslim leaders from the Congress would threaten officials. He also claimed that the presence of “Bangladeshis” has made it unsafe for their children to go out on the roads.
