In Bhopal, Hindu Leaders Call for Action Against ‘Love Jihad’ and Religious Conversion

Location: Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

During a Hanuman Janmotsav, Bhavya Hindu Ekta Shobha Yatra, Hindu Utsav Samiti President Chandrashekhar Tiwari and Shubham Arya alias Bhanu Hindu, National President of Jai Maa Bhavani Hindu Sangathan delivered anti-Muslim speeches. Tiwari described Hindus as “gunpowder,” warning that once triggered they would explode wherever they fell. He asserted that they would not allow their women to become victims of “jihad,” adding that imprisonment was not a deterrent as “food is provided there as well.” Bhanu Hindu claimed that with public support, they would shut down all meat shops and take action against those involved in religious conversion, cow slaughter, and “love jihad,” asserting, “this is our land, not your ‘abba Mughal’s.’”

Hindu Utsav Samiti President and Sanskriti Bachao Manch leader Chandrashekhar Tiwari used dehumanising and exclusionary rhetoric, referring to Muslims as “jihadi” and claiming they would “disappear like ghosts” when confronted with the strength of Hanuman. He peddled the anti-Muslim conspiracy theory of “love jihad,” alleging that hundreds of Hindu women fall victim to it every year. He urged women to restrict friendships, familial ties, social interactions, and even business relations exclusively to Hindus, warning that individuals appearing as “Rahul” could actually be “Javed.” He promoted suspicion toward interfaith interactions and reinforced rigid religious boundaries by advising women to verify identity through markers like tilak and shikha, and to seek protection only within the Hindu community. He claimed that adhering to such boundaries would prevent them from becoming victims of “love jihad.”
