Two Hindutva men allegedly made a minor raise “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans during a Muharram procession in Bareilly’s Hafizganj area on Sunday, June 21, and posted the video on social media in an attempt to falsely implicate Muslims, according to the findings of a police investigation.
The controversy erupted after a video purportedly showing pro-Pakistan slogans during a Muharram procession in Khaikheda village went viral on social media, triggering a hate campaign against local Muslims.
However, police said their preliminary investigation found that the video was allegedly staged.
Police said that two individuals, acting with “malicious intent”, made a child raise slogans, recorded the video, and then made it viral.
Police have registered an FIR and taken the accused into custody. Officials said further action will follow based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
In a statement, Circle Officer Nilesh Mishra said that a criminal case has been registered under relevant sections of law and the accused have been taken into custody.
“During the Muharram procession in village Khaikheda, two persons, with malicious intent, allegedly made a child raise an objectionable slogan and then viralised the video. An FIR has been registered, and legal action is being taken,” he said.
