Police on Saturday detained two youths in Panaji for allegedly expressing support for jailed activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam during celebrations over the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The incident occurred at Azad Maidan, where people had gathered to celebrate Pradhan’s resignation following nationwide protests demanding accountability from the Union government over the failures of the education sector in the country, including the NEET paper leak.

During the event, a youth identified as Danish displayed a placard expressing support for Khalid and Imam and, when questioned by reporters, said he supported the activist’s release from prison.

According to police, a senior officer present at the venue detained Danish after he allegedly refused to disclose his identity.

Following his detention, protesters marched to the Police Headquarters demanding his release.

During the demonstration, police also detained another person, Sudin Dalvi, alleging that he too expressed support for Khalid and Imam and misbehaved with mediapersons.
