An RSS-affiliated organisation, Seemanta Chetana Mancha Purvottar, jointly hosted a two-day conference with the Assam Rifles, the Union government’s counter-insurgency paramilitary force in the Northeast, according to a report by The Reporters’ Collective.
The conference was held on June 18 at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj campus in Guwahati. It focused on the theme, “Indo-Myanmar Frontier Issues and Way Forward.”
Among the speakers was RSS veteran Jagdamba Mall. The event was attended by the Director General of the Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, along with Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North), Major General Harinder Singh Mavi, and retired Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita of the Indian Army.
Serving and retired army and intelligence officials from the region, journalists, academics, and representatives of RSS-affiliated organisations also attended the conference.
Representing the RSS were Akhil Bharatiya Sah-Prachar Pramukh Pradeep Joshi and BJP MLA from Nagaland Temjen Imna Along.
Three universities from the region—Dibrugarh University, Manipur University, and Rajiv Gandhi University in Arunachal Pradesh—were also listed as collaborators.
According to The Reporters’ Collective, it sent questions to the Assam Rifles, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Defence asking whether and how permissions and clearances were granted for the Assam Rifles to co-host the event. The report said none of them responded.
