UDHAM SINGH NAGAR — District authorities carried out a demolition drive in the border town of Jaspur in Uttarakhand’s Terai region on Saturday, removing a structure identified by officials as a mazar, which they claimed was built on government land and classified as encroachment after survey findings.

According to the administration, the action was taken in the Ahmadnagar area of Jaspur after a detailed survey identified nearly six bighas of land allegedly under unauthorised occupation involving a religious structure and its boundary area.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rahul Shah said the process followed official procedures, including surveys, notices, and eviction orders. “A survey was conducted to identify encroachments on government land, including religious structures,” he stated.

He further added, “The concerned parties were issued notices on multiple occasions to present ownership and construction-related documents, but no valid records were submitted within the given time.”

Officials said the first notice was issued around three weeks earlier, followed by additional notices in May and June. Despite repeated opportunities, the administration maintained that no supporting document was produced.

Rahul Shah also said that an eviction order was issued in June after the verification process was completed. “Even after the order, the encroachment was not removed voluntarily, which led to the enforcement action,” he said.

Following the demolition, the area was levelled by the administration with police deployment to maintain order during the operation. Authorities stated that the drive was part of an ongoing effort to remove alleged encroachments from public land in the district.
