MUMBAI — A group of concerned citizens under the banner of Mumbai for Peace has urged Mumbai Police to take immediate action after a group allegedly threatened to hold a Hanuman Chalisa recital outside a church in Santacruz.

The delegation met Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma on Thursday evening and submitted a memorandum highlighting what it described as repeated attempts to disrupt Christian places of worship and religious gatherings.

The group also complained about the activities of Ankit Yadav and his associates, who reportedly identify themselves as members of the Bajrang Dal. The memorandum accuses them of creating communal tension through intimidation and provocative campaigns.

The delegation specifically drew the police officer’s attention to a poster issued under the banner of Sakal Hindu Samaj, announcing a programme on 5 July 2026 outside a church in the Gaon Devi area of Vakola, Santacruz East.

According to the memorandum, the poster threatens to organise a Hanuman Chalisa recital directly in front of the church if the police fail to take action against four pastors accused by the group of carrying out religious conversions.

The citizens’ group said such public threats were intended to intimidate members of the Christian community and interfere with their constitutional right to practise and profess their faith.
