New Delhi: Rashtirya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sarsanghchalak (head) Mohan Bhagwat (75), who was once in the news for hinting that Narendra Modi after crossing the age of 75 should consider stepping down, is sharing thoughts on Gen Z (those between the age of 15 and 30 years) as a whole.
The obvious prompt is the youth movement that has the Sangh Parivar confused about what to say – weigh in on the side of youth anger and candour or advocate ‘stability’ and ‘control’ of elders over their progeny.
Speaking at an event organised by the Vishwa Mangalya Sabha in Hyderabad, Bhagwat said today’s youth are deeply influenced by trends and are “emotional”. He said that they often do not think with a “calm mind”.
“Gen Z is good, adaptable and emotional by nature. They do not think with a very calm mind. If what is in touch with them is visibly authentic, it appeals to them,” Bhagwat said.
Linking his observation of the youth to social change, Bhagwat went onto say that the movement in India to claim freedom and rights for women which gained wide acceptance among the youth, was also bad news.
“‘Stree Mukti Andolan’ started and gradually became widely accepted… So, a phase passed. After that, the proponents of that movement realised that we had stepped onto a wrong path and ruined a generation or two of our country,” he said.
Bhagwat has been at the head of RSS since March 21, 2009.
Organiser, the RSS’s mouthpiece has made a list of whom it terms “controversial personalities” who extended their support to the Jantar Mantar movement triggered by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’s call.
