Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has written to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, seeking intervention over the “deliberate exclusion” of senior Muslim IAS and IPS officers in West Bengal from official meetings and protocol duties during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visits to the state in July and August 2026.
In her letter on Wednesday, addressed to the UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, Professor Nicolas Levrat, Moitra alleged that three senior officers were asked to leave or told not to attend official events connected with Shah’s visits, while officers of other faiths continued to participate.
The letter comes nearly two weeks after West Bengal Police registered an FIR against Moitra over a September 1 post in which she alleged that Muslim IAS and IPS officers had been deliberately excluded.
The letter concerns officers including Syed Waqar Raza, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Siliguri Police Commissionerate; Jawed Shamim, IPS, Director General of the West Bengal Special Task Force; and Khalil Ahmed, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
