Members of the Hindu Raksha Dal, led by Uttarakhand State President Lalit Sharma, claimed that their “Karyakarta Jodo Abhiyan” sought to mobilise Hindu youth who would “set Muslims straight.” He called for the removal of allegedly “illegal” mazars and mosques, including the Kaliyar Sharif Sabir Piya shrine, and declared that the Hindu Raksha Dal would “uproot” them. Participants also raised slogans including, “This time, the Kanwar pilgrimage will culminate with offering holy water at Deoband,” and “March to Deoband,” asserting that they would reclaim the alleged Shiv Mandir at Deoband. Sharma further threatened that anyone targeting members of the organisation would have “their eyes gouged out,” regardless of their affiliation. Another speaker called for not only ending “jihad” but also eliminating “jihadis,” urging supporters who could not do so themselves to stand behind those who would. He declared that the organisation would now confront them openly rather than secretly, glorified such vigilantism as martyrdom, and called for a Hindu Rashtra and Akhand Bharat. A third speaker claimed that the organisation’s “anti-jihad” campaign would ensure that “jihad” did not spread.
