A mob, allegedly linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), assaulted Sheikh Mohammad Mafik at his home, leading to his death on August 15. The attack followed his son Sheikh Abdul Hafiz’s visit to his former school to record a video documenting its condition as part of CJP’s “School Theek Karo” campaign. Mafik was assaulted while trying to protect his son and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. During the attack, Hafiz repeatedly pleaded, explaining that he had only raised concerns about problems at the school that had not been addressed and asserting that doing so was his constitutional right.
