BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay, speaking at a public event, claimed that religious conversion is a national threat, describing it as organised crime, warfare, and terrorism, and demanded prosecution under the NSA and UAPA, with property seizure, citizenship cancellation, and life imprisonment for those involved. He alleged that around 1,500 families were converted daily, claiming foreign-funded conversions had become a profitable business. He peddled the anti-Muslim conspiracy theory of “love jihad,” citing “Bangladeshi infiltration,” stone-pelting, religious fanaticism, and fraudulent identity documents as threats to Hindu society. He called for the closure of “Mughal-style” madrasas and British-era convent and missionary schools in favour of Vedic Gurukuls, and urged eliminating cash to disrupt funding for “jihad,” protests, and “traitors.” He also criticised religion-based family laws and called for a uniform “Women Act” and Uniform Civil Code.
