During an event, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted his government’s strict anti-conversion law, claiming the region had been severely affected by religious conversions. He fearmongered about demographic change, calling it a major challenge for Uttarakhand and vowing to prevent further “demographic imbalance.” Referring to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which he described as a “shuddhikaran” (purification) of the voter list, he questioned opposition to the process, asking why “ghuspaithiya” (infiltrators), “sandigdh” (suspect) and “apradhi” (criminal) people who come from elsewhere and “build a dharamshala” (settlement) should have their names included on the voter list.
