NEW DELHI – A Bajrang Dal leader in Gujarat has publicly claimed that his outfit assaulted 400 Muslim youths and forced them to perform the “Nagin dance” over allegations of “love jihad.”
Jwalit Mehta, who serves as a co-coordinator for the Hindutva organization in the state, issued a video statement in response to remarks made by Abdul Ahad, an All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate from the Jamalpur ward in the Ahmedabad municipal elections.
Ahad had alleged at a public meeting that members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal assaulted four Muslim youths in Ahmedabad over the issue of love jihad. He claimed that First Information Reports (FIRs) had been filed in the Nikol, Vatva, and Ghatlodia areas.
“I want to tell the goons of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal that if AIMIM succeeds in the elections, we will also stop your bullying activities,” Ahad said.
In his video response, Mehta used derogatory language against Ahad, calling him a “pig” and members of AIMIM “dogs,” while significantly escalating the figures mentioned.
“Yesterday in Karnavati, AIMIM’s pig leader said from a stage that Bajrang Dal leaders have beaten up four Muslim youths in the name of ‘love jihad’ claims. First of all, I want to correct his data. We have not beaten up four youths but 400 and made them do the Nagin dance,” Mehta said.
The Bajrang Dal leader also warned that anyone engaging in what he called a “love jihad conspiracy” would face similar treatment.
The video statement was posted on the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Gujarat Facebook page on April 20, with a caption stating that such action would be taken against anyone who harasses or roams around Hindu women.
