Tension briefly prevailed in Rampur village under the Nibohra Police Station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Agra on Monday evening after a dispute broke out over the route of a Dalit wedding procession.
According to police and local residents, the wedding procession was planned to take a different route instead of the traditional one after a bereavement in a family located along the usual path. However, some villagers objected to the change, leading to a confrontation between the two sides.
Police From Five Stations Rush to the Spot
The bride, Jashoda, daughter of Gurcharan Singh Valmiki, is a resident of Rampur village, while the groom, Jitendra, had arrived with the wedding procession from Saita village in Bichpuri.
As preparations for the procession began around 7 pm, objections were raised over the proposed new route. The disagreement created tension in the village, prompting the bride’s family to inform the police.
Police personnel from Nibohra, Mansukhpura, Fatehabad, Shamsabad and Iradatnagar police stations reached the village to prevent the situation from escalating.
