Hanuman Jayanti: Two detained for waving saffron flag on mosque in Delhi’s Tughlakabad

By Maktoob

Two individuals were detained on Thursday after allegedly climbing onto a mosque structure and waving a saffron flag during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in southeast Delhi’s Tughlakabad area on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm when a Shobha Yatra, linked to Hanuman Jayanti, was passing through the locality.

According to officials, the two men climbed onto the tin shed of the mosque’s ablution area (wuzu khana) and waved the flag, triggering concern among local residents.

These men climbed onto the mosque’s boundary wall and roof, including the tin-covered ablution (wudu) area, where they danced energetically, waved a large saffron flag and a gada (mace associated with Hanuman), while loud music played and the rest of the procession gathered nearby.

Police personnel on motorcycle patrol detained the individuals on the spot.

Authorities said the situation was brought under control without any escalation or violence, and the area remained peaceful.

In recent years, Hindu religious processions during festivals such as Hanuman Jayanti and Ram Navami have increasingly become flashpoints for anti-Muslim tension in several parts of India.
