Hindu nationalist supporters made announcements in the village calling for a social boycott of Christians whom they alleged had converted to Christianity and branded as “samaj-drohi” (traitors to society). They warned Christians to either convert to Hinduism or leave the village. They claimed that while some people were building churches today, others could build mosques tomorrow, leading to the village’s “ruin.” They asserted that only Hindus had lived in the village and that only Hindus would continue to live there.
