At a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) foundation day event, far-right religious preacher Surendranand Giri criticised Hindu politicians for wearing skullcaps and visiting mosques which he alleged was to garner Muslim votes, asking whether Muslim politicians would similarly wear saffron clothing and visit temples for Hindu votes. Referring to Muslims as “vidharmis” and “snakes,” and fearmongered over Muslim population as having “five children and seventy-five grandchildrens” who would pelt bricks and stones at Hindus. He also alleged that Muslim rulers had been glorified in school curricula, falsely claiming that the first six Education Ministers were Muslim and had “indoctrinated” children, and said the VHP was correcting the education system. He urged Hindus to have more “Sanatani children,” called for an end to Hindu-Muslim “brotherhood,” and asserted that VHP would work to make India a “Hindu Rashtra.”
