Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at the Mising Youth Festival, talked about what he described as “demographic change” and targeted those he referred to as “ghuspaithiya” (infiltrators). He claimed that the Mising community has a responsibility to free Assam of “ghuspaithiya.” He named seven districts with significant Muslim populations and alleged that “infiltrators” form a majority there. He urged the community to vote for the BJP if they want to stop “infiltration,” promising to identify and deport each and every “ghuspaithiya” if the party is brought back to power for a third term. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a high-powered demographic change mission to find a solution to what he called “unnatural” demographic change. He also claimed that 1.26 lakh acres of land have been “freed” from “ghuspaithiyas.”
