Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his Republic Day speech, claimed that the presence of Bengali-origin Muslims has raised questions about the existence of the Assamese society. He fearmongered about the Bengali-origin Muslim population, claiming that Hindus are becoming a minority in several districts. He alleged that they have encroached upon large amounts of land in the state. He also stated their decision to push individuals to Bangladesh once they are declared Bangladeshi citizens by a Deputy Commissioner, without going to a foreign tribunal. He questioned whether people want an Assam where they surrender their language, land, and culture to those from Bangladesh, urging them to vote decisively in the next elections.
