Suvendu Adhikari, BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition, stated at an election campaign rally that the state is a “Bengali Hindu homeland,” invoking the context of Partition. He alleged a “demographic change” due to an influx from Bangladesh and warned that, if the BJP does not come to power, Hindus would become a minority by 2041 and “Sharia” would be implemented.
