At a government event for the Annapurna Yojana, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that “jihadi” and “anti-national” elements prevent the singing of Vande Mataram and the hoisting of the national flag at Jadavpur University. Referring to the events of August 19 and the protests and confrontations that continued through August 20, he claimed that national celebrations were being obstructed on campus. Adhikari said he would work to establish “nationalism” and protect Sanatan culture and Bengali Hindu heritage on the campus and across the state.
