BJP leader Dharmraj Verma, speaking at a Bhoomi Poojan ceremony organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for a statue of Prithviraj Chauhan, referred to Muslims as a “gaddar qaum” (traitor community) and claimed that “not every Muslim is a terrorist, but every terrorist is a Muslim.” He claimed that Domariyaganj was once known as “mini Pakistan” and alleged that people identified by Muslim names had created terror on the streets. He further claimed that development was possible only when “Hindu and Hindutva” were safe, and said that if Muslim leaders were in power, the national flag would not be standing at its current height. Rejecting slogans of communal harmony, he claimed that promoting Hindu-Muslim unity was a tactic to weaken Hindus, asserting that Muslims “could never be our brothers.” He also mocked claims of following “Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb,” alleging that Muslims were conspiring to build mosques across villages and accusing them of dividing Hindus along caste lines. He further claimed that Muslims would demand restrictions on saffron flags, statues of Prithviraj Chauhan, Durga Puja and loudspeakers in temples if they came to power, while alleging that “green flags” would be placed on roads. He alleged that mosques were being used as sites where “conspiracies” were hatched for elections, fatwas issued and promises of “imaan” made, claiming that their ultimate goal was to capture power. He also claimed that during the tenure of a Muslim MLA, people of all faiths were expected to say “Assalamualaikum Pradhan ji.”
