NEW DELHI – Irked by the victory of Zohran Mamdani as the mayor of New York City in the United States, Yati Narsinghanand, controversial priest known for making hate speeches, has vowed to eradicate Islam and the name of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from the world, calling the religion a “cancer” at a public event held in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.
Narsinghanand made the inflammatory remarks while addressing a one-day gathering of Hindu monks at the Dhudheswar Nath Temple in Ghaziabad district on Wednesday. The event, titled “Deepawali Sant Samman Samaroh,” was organized by the Delhi Sant Mahamandal to mark the conclusion of the Hindu festival of Diwali.
Addressing the event, Narsinghanand described the election of a Muslim mayor in New York and London as a “time of great destruction.”
“After London, New York’s mayor has become a Muslim from India, whose mother is Hindu and whose wife is Hindu. This means it is the time of great destruction. I assure all of you that we will eliminate this cancer from the earth. Islam will not remain, only Sanatan Dharma will remain. Neither Muhammad nor anyone who takes Muhammad’s name will remain,” he said.
Zohran Mamdani was elected as the first Muslim mayor of New York City despite facing a massive hate and Islamophobic campaign. Hindutva groups in India also relentlessly opposed Mamdani, even though he is an Indian-origin American. Mamdani has been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his role in the 2002 anti-Muslim carnage in Gujarat.
