New Delhi: Members of the Muslim community have filed a complaint with the Durg police against a Hindutva leader for allegedly making hate speeches and derogatory remarks targeting Muslim women following a dispute over the burial of a deceased Muslim woman.
According to the complaint filed on Saturday, Hindutva leader Pradeep Sinha allegedly used “extremely hateful, objectionable, provocative, and inflammatory language” against Muslim women.
“Due to such activities, the religious sentiments of the Muslim community have been deeply hurt. This has caused tension, unrest, and fear in society, posing a serious threat to public peace, communal harmony, social fabric, and the constitutional system. This act clearly amounts to hate speech targeting religious sentiments, insulting the dignity of women, inciting public unrest, and provoking offenses — which is punishable under law,” the complaint stated.
The complaint was submitted by the Raza Unity Foundation, which urged the police to register an FIR against Sinha and other accused individuals and demanded their immediate arrest without granting bail.
“The accused should be arrested immediately so that a clear message goes to society that such hate-mongering will not be tolerated. Strong preventive measures should be taken to stop such hate-inciting incidents against any community in the future. We have full faith that the police administration will take prompt and appropriate legal action in the interest of impartiality and law,” the complaint added.
Speaking to The Hindustan Gazette, Mohsin Ashrafi, who was part of the delegation that met the Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Durg, said the CSP had assured them that an investigation would be conducted. He added that if the police fail to act, the community will submit another complaint.
