Uttarakhand SIR: Voter deletions exceeded 2022 victory margins in 45 seats, Muslim-heavy districts saw greater intensity: Report (Maktoob Media)

By Maktoob

Districts with a higher Muslim population share in Uttarakhand recorded higher electoral-roll deletion intensity under the state’s 2026 Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Sabar Institute’s analysis found.

The district-level analysis recorded a Pearson correlation of 0.54 and a Spearman correlation of 0.84 between Muslim population share and deletion intensity across Uttarakhand’s 13 districts.

The report’s surname analysis also lists surnames including Ali, Khan, Ahamad, Begam, Husain and Jahan among deleted electors, though it does not identify them by religion.

The analysis also found a weaker association between multidimensional poverty and deletion intensity, with a Pearson correlation of 0.17 and a Spearman correlation of 0.49.

By contrast, the Scheduled Caste population share showed a negative association, with a Pearson correlation of −0.65 and a Spearman correlation of −0.53.

The findings come from the Sabar Institute’s preliminary report on Uttarakhand’s 2026 SIR, which examined all 70 Assembly constituencies across 13 districts.

It identified 807,410 ASD electors and said the figure was a lower bound because ASD rolls for 415 of 12,543 polling parts were unavailable at the time of analysis.

Of the affected electors, 57.7% were recorded as “Permanently Shifted”, 20% as “Untraceable/Absent”, 14.9% under “Death” and 7.4% as “Already enrolled”. Women accounted for 52% of the affected electors, compared with 48% men and 40 third-gender electors.
