In Dehradun, CM Dhami and Religious Narrator Push ‘Hindu’ Identity and Birth-Rate Panic

Location: Dehradun, Uttarakhand

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, speaking at a Virat Hindu Sammelan commemorating the centenary celebration of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), promoted the anti-Muslim conspiracy theories of “love jihad,” “land jihad,” and “thook jihad,” claiming his government had worked against them. He also highlighted laws against alleged “religious conversion,” implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, and the shutting down of the state Madarsa board. He further claimed that every citizen of the country is a “Hindu,” asserting that those who regard the country as their parental land and respect its traditions, way of life, and values are Hindu in spirit despite following different forms of worship.

During a Virat Hindu Sammelan, religious narrator Manoj Mohan Nautiyal delivered an anti-Christian and anti-Muslim speech targeting Christian missionaries and those he labelled “jihadis,” branding them “vidharmi” (heretics). He portrayed these groups as existential threats and urged Hindus to increase their birth rate to counter what he described as a dangerous demographic decline. Emphasising a militant approach to religious preservation, he invoked the imagery of “one hand holding a mala and the other a spear”. He called on Hindus to be prepared to take up arms to defend their dharma, claiming their ancestors had done the same.
