At an election rally, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah urged voters to support the Bharatiya Janata Party to make Assam “ghuspaithiya-mukt” (infiltration-free), alleging the Indian National Congress enabled “ghuspaith” between 1950 and 2014 and “destroyed” the state. He claimed the BJP first focused on stopping infiltration within Assam, while routes through Tripura and West Bengal remained active, adding that “ghuspaith” (infiltration) has been stopped in Tripura and would be stopped in Bengal once the BJP forms the government there. He asserted that within five years every “each and every ghuspaithiya” would be identified, removed and “thrown out.” He said the government is removing “ghuspaithiya” from electoral rolls and accused the Opposition of resisting it. He alleged that Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, had opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act that benefits Hindu refugees but supports “ghuspaithiya” for vote-bank politics. He warned of demographic change, claimed seven districts in Assam have become Muslim-majority, and stated that the BJP would stop migration and address the “population crisis.” He added that the government would act against “unnatural” demographic changes, implement a Uniform Civil Code including restrictions on multiple marriages. He urged voters to press the lotus symbol “with such aggression” that every “ghuspaithiya” in the country feels the impact.
